Ok maybe i'm a bit crazy here, but i make it a point to make sure that someone tells me what kind of food they want me to eat before i eat it. This means u hand me something or put a plate in front of me i want to know what is on it. Am I the only one who does this?
Jo aka Ltstar
Why just not ask for what you want first, before having them serve you?
yeah I just ask them what they have or if I'm at a restraunt well I order.
same here.
I usually know what I'm getting when I eat because I either fix it myself, someone else fixes it and tells me what they're up to or when I'm out, I order what I want. The one break from that is when I go to someone's house that I don't know real well. I have no idea what they're serving until I get it. Of course, that isn't so bad because they have told me what they are serving as they are dishing it up. I can't recall having ever just been handed a plate and told to take it or leave it.
I either cook myself or order at restaurants 99% of the time. That being said, when I was little I was taught to eat everything and I like almost every type of food (including some bizarre ones) so I am not picky at all about what I get with the exception of oatmeal, cream of wheat and peanut butter. Everything else is fair game, but people always ask me if I want something if they are serving me food so if I were morepicky I definitely would be given every opportunity to decide what I wanted.
I try to identify it purely by smell which keeps me amused for a while,..Did I hear you right you let people decide what you are going to eat?..dear me I would just ask what do you want to eat pal and hand it over its only food after all.
no that isn't what i meant at all
Sometimes i am asked to try something or just told to eat something but they don't tell me what it is. O this is difficult to explain.
have you sense of adventure the same happened with me and freshly caught oysters...the wet slimy feel of them was revolting, but that taste ahh heaven smile...Listen LT as we say here ye'v a good tongue in yer heid man..ask!
I understand Joe's point, if someone wants you to try something you've never tried before, you may want to know a bit about it and what it's got in it so it won't contain things you don't like. I usually tell people what I want to eat if I'm not cooking myself.
Yeah, when someone wants me to try something, I either want them to give it to me in my hand or on a plate, because I usually want a few seconds to smell, touch, and taste a tiny bit of it. I say that first part because some people just want you to taste something by just putting it in your mouth. I usually don't care what it is or has so therefore it doesn't make too much of a difference if they tell me. And actually, I'd rather not know, if it is my first time trying something. But if there is a choice on what to eat, I do like to be told all my choices. The only thing I won't eat are foods with a slippery/chewy texture, such as the meat in menudo, fat or skin from meats, and that sort of thing. But if I don't want it and it's still given to me, I will just eat everything else and take out those parts. But of course, if I have a choice, I will not ask for it if I know there will be slippery/chewy textures in it. And if I cooked, of course, I would not cook food with that texture if I can help it.

hmmm Jo... nice pointm, I am kinda like that to i guess
I am will have to say that the so called meat in menudo is not meat at all. It is a cow's stomach. It requires a special kind of taste buds to mouth that stuff. Sorry, I have never tried it so I can't say if I like it or not. Star
I sometimes try to have my bf try new things as he is extremely picky with food. This means that many times if I tell him what it is, he won't even give it a try. So, if he tries it and likes it, then I tell him what it is, if he doesn't like it he can spit it out! It will not kill him to try a new taste, texture or kind of food. I have managed to have him taste Indian food which he now loves, some Greek food that he also likes, and some Chinese that he also likes. Before I met him he lived on pizza, steak and burgers... LOL Star
:) I would definately want to know what it was that I was eating before I ate it once when I was a little kid my told me that it was refried beans on my plate and it was really black eyed peas they were absoluely disgusting ugh
If I hadn't tried something before, I'd definitely wanna know what it was I was about to eat.
To Star, YAY! Indian food! Agreed, many people won't try ethnic foods because they are terribly limited and that drives me crazy. Coodos to your patience with your BF. I always ask about the ingredients of something I'm being encouraged to try, because if mayonaise or Velvita cheese is included there's no way I'm even trying it, let alone eating it. Other than that though I consider my self to be very open-minded and adventurous. I guess other people might, like the creator of this board topic allow them selves to be randomly handed or served food, but, control-freak that I am I would never allow that to happen. Well all, sniff before you taste and good luck. PS, not assiago cheese. Taste then sniff, it is wonderful, but smells rather off-putting.
well it's good to experiment once in awhile with your taste buds to try something you have not tasted before
I might be willing to try something new, but I still want to know what it is first. I agree with the poster of this topic. Don't give me a plate of food without telling me what you are giving me.
I want to know what I am eating especially at banquets where the food is already on the plate. I am a picky eater sorry that's me!!
yeah, i generally like to know what it is, i won't just take things if peoplesay try this and give it to me...
usually i cook myself or order at a restaurant...
but sometimes, people sa something like, "do you want everything?"
and then you have to go through the thing of getting them to tell you what everything is, but that isn't hard.
